Adam considers the consistent practice of yoga to be perhaps the greatest discovery of his adult life. He remembers a time before yoga as a twentysomething artist and designer with a host of medical concerns ranging from depression to ulcers to a potentially slipped disc in his lower back. He remembers the host of "solutions" to these problems offered by Western medicine: medication, surgery, and the elimination of bike riding (gasp!) from his daily life. Most significantly, Adam remembers believing that, coming into adulthood, his health would be generally on the decline from there on out, as that seemed like some sort of generally accepted truism.
These days, as a thirtysomething artist and designer, Adam is amazed to find his health only improving, and his prior conditions ably treated, if not completely resolved, by the daily practice of yoga. Beyond the miraculous therapeutic effects of practice, Adam has found the disciplines of asana (posture), pranayama (breathing), and meditation to be a vehicle through which he can both inhabit the world more fully and express himself more deeply.
Though he has been guided by a variety of yoga luminaries, Adam's teaching comes directly from his daily experiences on his own yoga mat. He is grateful to be an avid student of Jim Bennitt and James Tennant and is strongly influenced by their approach to vinyasa krama (intelligent sequencing) and the application of ayurvedic principles to the physical practice. Adam's classes are challenging but not exhausting; he aims for students to walk out the door with increased energy, focus, and inspiration for whatever challenges life might hold for them.
